Prepare the Beef Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are incorporated.
Form Patties: Shape the beef mixture into 4 equal patties.
Sear the Patties: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they're browned. Transfer the patties to a baking dish.
Prepare the Sauce: In the same skillet, pour in the beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, and dried thyme. Stir and bring it to a simmer, allowing it to thicken slightly (about 3 minutes).
Add Vegetables: Stir in the frozen mixed vegetables to the sauce, mixing until well coated.
Assemble the Bake: Pour the vegetable sauce over the browned patties in the baking dish. Cover the dish with foil.
Bake: Place the covered dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes.
Add Cheese: Remove the foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top, and return to the oven. Bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve: Let it cool for a few minutes before serving, spooning the sauce and vegetables over the patties.
Notes
